What's new in November 2011?

Water quality, water quantity and aquatic ecosystem monitoring

Do you require access to water quality, water quantity and aquatic ecosystem monitoring information? Access to this information has now been made easier through the water quality, water quantity and aquatic ecosystem monitoring page and can be searched for via the WetlandMaps and summary information tools. Links to these tools and other monitoring information are also available via the Queensland waterways monitoring portal.

Grazing for Healthy Coastal Wetlands: Guidelines for managing coastal wetlands in grazing systems

The Grazing for Healthy Coastal Wetlands Guidelines have been developed by the Department Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) to provide graziers, landowners and extension officers with information on managing grazing in and around Queensland's coastal wetlands to maintain healthy coastal wetlands and productive grazing enterprises.

Wetlands and farm management - case studies

A range of new farm management case studies showcase sustainable wetland management in agricultural production systems including horticulture and grazing.

Aquatic Conservation Assessments (ACA) using Aquatic Biodiversity Assessment and Mapping Method (AquaBAMM)

An Aquatic Conservation Assessment (ACA) identifies the conservation and ecological values of wetlands. It provides a robust and objective conservation assessment using criteria, indicators and measures.

ACA using AquaBAMM for wetlands of the Queensland Murray–Darling Basin have been conducted for the freshwater non-riverine and riverine wetlands in each of the six Queensland Murray Darling (QMDB) catchments - Border Rivers, Condamine-Balonne, Moonie, Nebine-Mungalalla, Warrego and Paroo. Results from these assessments are intended for use under Queensland Government's planning processes, regional planning processes and use in the Murray Darling Basin management.

Conceptual model case study - Aquatic connectivity: Macintyre River

The conceptual model case study Aquatic connectivity: Macintyre River provides an overview of different aspects of aquatic connectivity and considers changes to the area’s hydrological regime and influences of the local ecology.

The Macintyre River conceptual modelling case study is one of a series of illustrated studies of selected wetlands in Queensland.

The conceptual model case studies offer site-specific, synthesised science in the form of conceptual models and text to support and inform management and cover a wide variety of wetland issues and types.

Queensland Wetlands Program fact sheets

Find out about new and current projects of the Queensland Wetlands Program. The Program currently supports more than 30 projects that deliver products to protect and manage wetlands. These products help local, state and federal agencies, landowners, regional natural resource management bodies and conservation groups with all aspects of wetland management, from determining their location and type to assessment and rehabilitation.

New links and updates

Updated Wetland Management Handbook: Farm Management Systems (FMS) guidelines (handbook)

The handbook is an update to the version, originally published in 2008, which brings the text up to date in terms of contact numbers and references to programs and agencies. It offers comprehensive advice on how to identify wetlands, how to manage them and how to construct artificial wetlands for wetland managers and extension officers. The handbook is designed to complement the Farm Management Systems developed by industry organisations within the Queensland Farmers’ Federation.
