WetlandInfo Background

The Department of Environment and Resource Management, in partnership with the Australian Government (via the Queensland Wetlands Program), has developed WetlandInfo Queensland (WetlandInfo), your first-stop shop for Queensland wetland information.

In 2003, the Australian and Queensland governments established the Queensland Wetlands Program. The Program is designed to develop and implement measures for the long-term conservation and management of wetlands in Queensland, with a focus on the Great Barrier Reef catchment consistent with actions outlined in the Reef Water Quality Protection Plan.

The Program is being implemented over five years and is funded through the Great Barrier Reef Coastal Wetlands Protection Program and the Queensland Natural Heritage Trust Wetlands Program.

WetlandInfo consultation

A crucial component of the development of WetlandInfo has been to gain stakeholder input into the design and content of the website. To gather information, a number of consultation processes were used, including an online questionnaire and a series of workshops. Stakeholders included representatives from regional bodies, Federal, State and local government agencies, academics, peak industry and non government organisations.
