Management - Toxicants
Management practices to reduce the load of toxicants entering a wetland:
- Adequate buffer zones
- Chemical application method, rates and timing
- Farm management systems (chemicals)
- Government regulation
- Organic (non-chemical) farming
- Point source licensing and enforcement
- Spill prevention and control/response plans
- Various management practices that reduce erosion/soil loss as some chemicals bind to sediments (see aquatic sediment stressor)
