Management - Toxicants

Management practices to reduce the load of toxicants entering a wetland:

  • Adequate buffer zones
  • Chemical application method, rates and timing
  • Farm management systems (chemicals)
  • Government regulation
  • Organic (non-chemical) farming
  • Point source licensing and enforcement
  • Spill prevention and control/response plans
  • Various management practices that reduce erosion/soil loss as some chemicals bind to sediments (see aquatic sediment stressor)
