Pressure - Pests

Sources of pests:

  • Pest (animal and plant) species can enter wetlands through a variety of methods, such as aquarium release, garden/agriculture and domestic pet escapees, plant dumping, aquaculture escapees, vehicle/equipment movement and other recreational activities (e.g. bait for fishing, attached to shoes/camping gear), deliberate release (e.g. fish stocking, deer, rabbits) or naturally over time through pest migration/dispersal via wind (e.g. seeds), water (e.g. aquatic weeds) or over land (e.g. pigs, cane toads)

Pressure (Source) indicators
Pressure indicator:% of wetland adjoining urban land-use
Pressure indicator: recreational usage index
Pressure indicator:% of catchment modified
Pressure indicator: presence of aquaculture facilities using species non-native to the region
Pressure indicator: presence of key aquatic pest (animal, plant) species in adjoining areas
Pressure indicator: presence of key terrestrial pest (animal, plant) species in adjoining areas
