Sources of acidic water:

  • Disturbance of acid sulphate soils, e.g. drains constructed around agriculture or housing developments, can expose acid sulphate soils which result in acid water run-off during rainfall events which then enter wetlands
  • Acid rain is another potential source of acidic water to wetland
