Pressure - Habitat Removal

Sources of habitat removal/disturbance from wetlands:

  • Habitat is removed for the development of a variety of things, including: buildings, foreshore infrastructure and amenity, roads and bridges, aquaculture, reclamation for agriculture, urbanisation and industry, etc.
  • Extractive operations, reclamation and modification of natural drainage pathways remove habitat
  • Uncontrolled vehicle access and recreational activities can result in the loss of wetland habitat
