Floodplain shrub swamp habitats occur on seasonally waterlogged Quaternary alluvial plains along coastal lowlands. These are related to coffee rock in the dune systems, hard pan, and areas of water table discharge. Wet heath, in general, are non-floodplain systems. Floodplain heath swamp habitats do exist and are found within a floodplain context, with alluvial soils, and receive water from overbank flow and are therefore an exception to the general rule.
