Animals move to different areas of a lake daily or over time to feed and shelter. Some of the typical places fauna can be found include: Open waterbody/Submerged Vegetation Zone - fish, turtles, crayfish, and ducks feeding on insects. Emergent vegetation - Comb-crested Jacana, fish, turtles, crocodiles Fringing - ducks use this zone as a nursery area and for refuge for their chicks, ibis, frogs, kingfishers, egrets and herons Zooplankton and microcrustaceans are microscopic aquatic fauna that graze on phytoplankton and detritus, they can be found in all lake zones.
