Declared Fish Habitat Areas (FHAs) give protection to inshore and estuarine fish habitats that are important for sustaining local and regional fisheries. Development activities are restricted within FHAs, with all habitat types (eg vegetation, sand bars and rocky headlands) equally protected from physical disturbance and coastal development.
