Lakes Numalla and Wyara in the broad semi-arid mulga plains of south-west Queensland are some of inland Australia’s most important wetlands. In this dry landscape, the Currawinya wetlands provide a permanent source of water for local wildlife and waders passing through inland Australia during their annual autumn migration. The lakes are part of Currawinya National Park, established in 1991 to conserve samples of the major ecosystems found in Queensland's Mulga Lands region. Wetlands International provides the full Ramsar Information Sheet for Currawinya Lakes as well as the official map of the site and a useful tool for preparing reports on specific aspects of the site. Currawinya Lakes is also listed in the Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia. Although the official map of this site is found on the Wetlands International site, a digital version may viewed on WetlandMaps. The federal Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities also provides an information sheet on the Currawinya Lakes Ramsar site.
